St Matthews Little Monkeys is a private day nursery, situated in a purpose built building within Walsall, providing care for children from birth to 5 years of age.

Our aim is to create and provide a caring, safe and stimulating environment for our children and hope to create the feeling that we are an extension of the family.

Our primary concern is the children's well-being and through a structured and loving environment. We help them to develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and also encourage them to mix socially.

We offer free funded places for all 3 and 4 year olds for 15 hours per week. Some 2 year olds are also eligible for 15 hours free funding, please speak to a member of staff if you would like to find out more information.

We have a large open plan room which has been separated in to individual areas appropriate to each age group. Each area has been carefully designed to accommodate the individual needs of each child. Our children feel part of a large environment and all the children love mixing together socially and enjoy learning from one another.

“Children form strong attachments to staff. Young children and babies settle quickly. Staff ensure that the environment is clean, well-organised and safe for children to explore. ” Ofsted Report 2016

Welcome To Our Nursery

Baby Room

Our Baby area caters for the very young babies up to when they turn 2. We follow the EYFS to support the growth and development of each child, and have a designated Senco officer as well as staff being trained in first aid and health and safety.

We have a separate changing area to get cleaned up and a sleep/quiet area for when they need to recharge their batteries.

Our babies are given a wide range of resources to explore such as heuristic, sand and water play and many more different textures to develop their knowledge.

We strongly encourage that every child has a settling in period which is tailored to meet their individual needs. As every child is unique we find that some children may need next to no time to settle into nursery life where as others may require a lengthy period of time. We recognise this and ensure that your child is given the time and attention needed.

Structured timetables and planned activities organises the day to day running of the unit, and enables us to monitor their progress, and areas to improve. We implement a routine to all children as a guide to ensure they are happy and content throughout the day.

“Children are very happy and settled. Staff are caring and dedicated. A highly effective key-person system takes account of children's preferences, helping to ensure that their emotional well-being is effectively nurtured”.  Ofsted Report 2016
The 2-3’s unit is a fun and brightly decorated where the children use stimulating equipment to enhance their skills.

We have plenty of equipment to promote the independence of each child. This includes their own art and craft area, home corner, soft play area, library area and sand and water play.

We provide exciting opportunities for children to explore, which helps to create the right balance needed for children to progress within their development. The children's work is displayed around the room giving the children recognition of their creation, of which they are very proud of.

We communicate with parents with daily records informing you of how your child has been at nursery. Parent’s evenings are held to discuss your child's development and any concerns you may have.

2-3's Story Time

Fun In Pre School

We have a large and brightly decorated classroom for the children to access all areas and equipment independently. Children have free flow access to the resources and the outdoor area which encourages, good social integration and offers opportunities and facilities to promote independence and development.

“ Staff provide well-planned imaginative activities to promote children's interest. They promote children's communication and language skills by encouraging pre-school children to act out and recall stories using props and dressing-up clothing.

Good learning is continued outdoors as children cut up carrots to make soup”. Ofsted Report 2016

The team works together to plan activities that are educational and stimulating for the children. Many activities are planned around the children’s own interests. Focused activities can take place in small groups or on a 1 to 1 basis where necessary.

We know the importance of nurturing children's developments and offers extra curriculum activities on a regular basis. Reward schemes such as stickers and stars are awarded to acknowledge and congratulate good behaviour, achieving new skills and being helpful.

We have various outside agencies come in to support our staff such as SENCO, speech and language therapists and physiotherapists. We have a visit from a dance teacher every week for the children to enjoy a music session packed full of fun and excitement as well as a music teacher to get them all singing.

We have a fabulous and secure outdoor play area that is designed for all age groups to enjoy. There are shaded areas for the younger age groups to enjoy the lovely weather along with sand and water pits, climbing frames, cars and bikes and planting areas to dig and explore. We try to spend as much time as we can outdoors, especially when the sun comes out.

Children develop good physical skills in the indoor and outdoor play areas. Staff provide interesting experiences and activities that teach children about diversity in the wider community.” Ofsted Report 2016

We organise outings to local attractions, which help us to reinforce current planning activities the children are covering.
