Small Explorers is a community pre-school, that caters for the individual needs of children from 2-4 year olds. We are based in The Forum on the corner of Bardolph Avenue and Pixton Way. There is free parking for pick up and drop off and  the T33 bus stops right outside.

We welcome all children and have experience of children with special needs and with children who speak little or no English and from different cultures and backgrounds. We have an open door policy and parents are welcome to come in at any time.

Throughout the year we run various events for parents to attend- regular stay’n’plays, sports day, Christmas and Easter events etc. and celebrate festivals such as Divali with the children.

We are able to take funded two year olds as well as offer 15 hours of funding for all 3&4 year old's.

We have a dedicated and caring team of staff. Each child is allocated a key worker who will work with you and your child to ensure they are happily settled and making good progress.

We are working along side Phonic Stars, who visit the setting once a week at no extra charge.  This enables the children to learn the fundamental skills of phonics through play, singing and fun activities that we embed into the weekly plans to support the children's learning and retention.

Parents are invited to settling in meeting with their child’s key worker approx. 4 weeks after their child has started and to progress meetings in January and June.

We have a settling in routine which can be tailored to individual children.  We work closely with parents and have developed home learning packs which are fun activities parents can do with their children at home. These follow the EYFS and compliment the activities and learning the children do at pre-school. Parents can also contribute observations to their children’s folders.

All staff have a childcare qualification and have undertaken safeguarding training. Staff attend training courses throughout the year in order to improve their knowledge and outcomes for children. All staff are first aid certified.

We offer individual leaning plans to support the children's individual needs and actively learn through play.

We have a large hall with a variety of activities for the children to enjoy and learn from including sand, water, painting, home corner, computer, book area, small world toys, construction and maths activities. We do regular cooking sessions with the children.

We have home work packs that we encourage the children to choose with their parents and complete WOW cards when the children complete or achieve something out side nursery time. We have termly parent meetings to praise the development of the child and to develop next steps to support progression.

Most children move on to the local primary schools and we prepare the children for transition.

Our outside play area has climbing frames, slides, tricycles and scooters. We go outside everyday unless the weather is really bad.   We help children develop their independence encouraging then to have a go and do things for themselves.

We use our environment to enable the children to explore and learn such as walking to the local shops, visits to the parks and of course the beautiful sounding woodlands.

We would love to invite you to come and look around our beautiful setting to see for yourself why we are the right choice for your childcare needs. No appointment is required, just call in today!
