- 60g plain flour
- 40g butter (room temperature)
- Half a teaspoon vanilla extract
- 20g caster sugar
- Baking Tray
- Baking Paper
- Shape Cutters
- Mixing Bowl
- Teaspoon
- Rolling Pin
Before cooking, wash your hands and put an apron on. Pre heat the oven to 160ºC Fan/180ºC/Gas 3 and line your baking tray with baking paper
With your mixing bowl, add the flour and butter, then rub with your fingers until it becomes crumbly. Just imagine you are tickling the ingredients.
Add half a teaspoon of vanilla extract then mix in the caster sugar.
Now sprinkle a clean surface with flour. Start by squeezing the mixture together with your hands then roll into a ball until it all sticks together. (You may need to add a little flour)
With a rolling pin, roll the dough out flat until it is about 0.5 cm thick. Now use a cutter to cut shapes out of your mixture and place them onto the baking tray. You can re-roll the dough to cut more shortbread biscuits until it is all used up.
You will need to ask a grown-up for help with this part. Place the tray in the oven for 12–15 minutes.
Once they are cool you can eat them, but not all at once!
Serving suggestion: Sprinkle some sugar over the biscuits for a lovely gift for someone special or serve one or two each with some fresh fruit and a glass of milk for a healthy snack.
Remember to send us a picture of your shortbread to our facebook page.
